Building a community of excellent writers for our kids and God’s glory!

Need a Christian writers group that understands writing for teenagers and kids?

Getting a book published is every writer’s dream, but the journey can be frustrating, even overwhelming. We’re here to help! Pekazoid Prophets is a Christian writers group whose leaders love kids and understand the challenges of writing for them. We can help you learn how to write great books for children and young adult readers.

Whether you’re just starting out or already have a book published, Pekazoid Prophets can help you hone your skills as a writer. Our goal is to impact the industry with excellent fiction that will improve sales and answer the need for God-honoring fiction for our kids.

And while we’re working on answering that need, we won’t ignore the needs of the individual Christian writer. Our virtual prayer garden (now being “landscaped”) is a place for spiritual enrichment and prayer.

What we offer:

  • Online writing classes: top-notch training from industry professionals who will teach you how to write books that engage young readers.  Our Parabler Academy focuses on teaching writers at every skill level, from “Freshman” to “Senior.” We’ll help you master important writing techniques, find your voice, and prepare your manuscript for submission to agents and publishers.
  • Critique Groups: our advanced, Junior and Senior level writers will receive constructive comments and advice from their peers and moderating professionals.
  • Genre-specific training: Break-out classes will receive instruction on subjects like world-building for speculative fiction writers and research techniques for historical writers.
  • Mentoring program: Graduates of the Parabler Academy will have the opportunity to be matched with a published CBA author who will assist you on your journey toward publication.
  • Writing services: Receive a critique from a professional author or have that manuscript edited. We offer these services at a discounted rate for members.
  • Manuscript service: Our goal for the future as our membership grows is to create a manuscript review service that will make your proposal available to editors and agents.
Our blog, Pekazoid Post, is free for all visitors and features posts by guest bloggers offering insight into the writer’s journey, tips on writing techniques, book reviews, interviews, and industry buzz.
Finally, Pekazoid Prophets hosts two writers retreats each year, where you’ll find teaching geared toward writers for children (from early picture books to young adult fiction) in a relaxed and refreshing atmosphere.

Membership to Pekazoid Prophets is only $50.00 per year!

What in the World is a PEKAZOID?!

“Pekazoid” is a made-up word that comes out of Nancy Rue’s “Get Some on You” writers workshops. We use it to embody the imaginative nature of young people. To a three-year-old, a pekazoid might be a friendly dinosaur with pink spots. To a teenager, a socially awkward individual in an inappropriate prom dress. As writers for children and young adults, we must tap into this creative, imaginative nature to create words and worlds that engage and enterain young readers and give them God-honoring fiction to enlighten them.

One thing i would like to have help with is knowing what awards are being given to children’s books. Do you have a list of where children’s books can be submitted for such? Thanks so much, Shelley L Houston

  • Hey, Shelley!
Our blog, Pekazoid Post, is available to all visitors to our website. It will contain positive industry news as well as writing tips and words of encouragement for writers. We’ll certainly be posting word of contests and publishers.
    Blessings!

    “Dean” of Pekazoid Prophets

  • Hello everyone. Thank you Diana and Nancy for getting us off to a great start! It’s all about the kids.

  • I’m so glad you’re doing this! My brother and I (independently) noticed on recent trips to Barnes & Noble (in different states) the very disturbing new genre for teens being pushed, “paranormal romance.” It sickens me to see our children and teens being fed such a destructive diet. Thank you for doing all you can to develop and strengthen pen warriors for the Kingdom of God–writers who will bear the light of truth and write stories that build up rather than tear down character, stories that support the things God loves and grieve over the things God grieves. We all make choices in life. You’ve chosen to use your gifts to serve Him and I applaud you for it! May God bless you and those you help as you find outlets to bless others with God’s gift of words.
